khullu (Ladakhi) - yak wool

This is our first scarf using only yak wool - a premiere!  It is hand-spun and hand-woven by our team member Vishwanath in Himachal Pradesh. It is woven with soft yak wool from our nomadic team in Changthang in Ladakh. Yak wool keeps extremely warm and is very soft. It comes from the down of the yak, the layer closest to a yak's body called khullu. The fiber is taken by hand in the months of June and July. This scarf is undyed as we want to show the beauty of the yak wool from Ladakh and the fine weaving skill of Vishwanath.
